Not sure if this is an acceptable solution, but adding "ipv6" to my USE flags allowed 2.0.1 to compile.

"ipv6" must be some of this mystic use-flags. :D

However, got it with

Code:

USE="ipv6" emerge /usr/portage/mail-client/evolution/evolution-2.0.1.ebuild

Thanks and why do you know this?!?

There is a solution on the CVS.
Change line 900 of camel/camel-service.c from
Code:
 hints->ai_family = AF_INET;

to
Code:
 ((struct addrinfo *) hints)->ai_family = AF_INET;

Maybe a patch will be available soon. It compiles fine this way.

I get this when going to emerge 2.0.1:

Code:
vt-manchester1c-109 monni # USE="ipv6" emerge /usr/portage/mail-client/evolution/evolution-2.0.1.ebuild

!!! Warning: emerge /path/to/ebuild is broken and considered dangerous.
!!! Don't use it. I'm serious, we're coming after you if you use it.

>>> Waiting 10 seconds before starting...
>>> (Control-C to abort)...
Continuing with emerge /path/to/ebuild in: 10 9 8 7 6 5 q4

Exiting on signal 2

Any suggestions?

You're done. Now they will be coming after you. That's it, say goodbye :D

Read the new portage guide and use portage's configuration files. For starters, make sure /etc/portage exists. Evo 2.0.1 is masked, so unmask it with:

echo =mail-client/evolution-2.0.1 >> /etc/portage/package.unmask

Now it's unmasked, but since it's also ~x86 you'll want to tell emerge to use the unstable version:

echo mail-client/evolution >> /etc/portage/package.keywords

Go on doing this for all dependencies that are still masked or masked by keyword (unstable). It's a pain. Yep. Oh, and check for typos. I didn't test it.

On 2.0.2 does patching fail? I get the error:
Code:
* Patching ${S}/ltmain.sh...
 *   Could not apply portage.patch!  *   Please verify that it is not needed.

Which looks squirrly to me.

Thanks Servermonk for giving me a great opportunity to have my first ever play with ebuild!

I ran
Code:
ebuild evolution-2.0.2.ebuild fetch
ebuild evolution-2.0.2.ebuild unpack

to download and unpack the sources. I then edited the file /mnt/storage2/tmp/portage_tmp/portage/evolution-2.0.2/work/evolution-2.0.2/camel/camel-service.c as you suggest and changed
Code:
 myhints.ai_faimily = AF_INET;
to
Code:
myhints.ai_family = AF_INET;

I then ran
Code:
ebuild evolution-2.0.2.ebuild compile
ebuild evolution-2.0.2.ebuild install
ebuild evolution-2.0.2.ebuild qmerge

to compile, install into the temporary install directory and then merge the code.
I finished off with
Code:
 emerge -Pp evolution

Works fine! OR rather the above did! Evolution will not run as the binary never actually got built at some point. It failed on building the calender module which I never noticed! :-( So when installing it I get the following error:
Code:

mv: cannot stat `libevolution-calendar-a11y.0.0.0': No such file or directory
libtool: install: error: relink `libevolution-calendar-a11y.la' with the above command before installing it

Bugger!
Oh well. I'm sure I'll sort it out. That's the beauty of Gentoo, when things go wrong, the learning curve gets steep, but if you get to the top, you've learnt! :-)

Cheers
Ferg

Luckily I'm not in THAT big a hurry to get 2.0.2 running ;) I'll wait untill the developers fix it and give it another go later.

ps- Thanks go to apmurray for locating that spelling error though not me :) I just found the error and bugger if I knew what to do with it.

I have a dirty hack(tm) that allowed me to get evolution working.
emerge -uav evolution and then after the message saying that source was unpacked hit CTRL-Z. This pauses the emerge. Edit
/var/tmp/portage/evolution-2.0.2/work/evolution-2.0.2/camel/camel-service.c
by fixing the mispelling of family in myhints. Save the file and exit. Bring back to emerge process with fg.

Works for me.

ps - and thanks must therefore go to Wayne Mitchell who reported it in the bug - he saw it before me.
happy to be able to pass on the info though

UPDATE has been fixed in portage now

This one is a very good and simplest way to resolve problem. Thanks so much it worked for me too.

Damm, why did I not think of doing that :-)

Oh well at least I learnt about ebuild!

Cheers
Ferg

Dang! I'll never pass newbie with this forum... have to resort to these kind of posts... :-)

Anyway, changed make.conf to include ipv6 and now evo seems to emerge without any hickups 2.0.2 that is. Although the problem was the misspellt family string (I think).

Yeah you shouldn't need to include ipv6 to get it to emerge. After it unpacks you'll now see the "camel typo patch" applied before it builds. 2.0.2 seems to be working perfectly now :)
