guys, while i respect and tolerate your political opinion, i still think this is the wrong place to express it in any way here. this is a PPC/Linux forum, hence you should be considerate and restrict your postings to topic related comments. i am sure we all would appreciate that.
cheers,

Our forum icons appear in every section of the gentoo forums that we post in, if you have a problem take it to otw.
Commenting on it in a thread in the PPC forum is not the right place.

My postings were on topic until now. Therefore I'm going to ask that a moderator split this thread. _________________ Inspiron 4100 & Sun UltraAXe

As long as you don't violate the general guidelines or the OTW guidelines then political statements are OK as avatars.
As long are you are not being offensive (i.e. if someone had the Swastika as an avatar, it would be a different issue), then stonent's avatar is allowed, just as much as if you had a vote Kerry avatar.
Obviously it would be different if someone posted "vote Bush/Kerry" in a support thread, but nobody has done that, and poitical avatars are allowed as long as they are in line with the guidelines.
Hope that clears things up a bit. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

frankly, i wasn't expecting this to be such a big issue. i was simply surprised to be flashed by an avatar expressing some random person's political opinion in a linux forum. after all, these are linux related forums. if you feel like making political statements, go join the related forums.
i won't waste any more time argueing about that here, i have better things to do. _________________ Jens Troeger

Personally, I have to say that I despise the Bush/Cheney avatar, but I despise even more someone's right to express themselves being infringed upon. They have the right to have that avatar, just as I have the right not to like it, ignore it and get on with my life.

wow. Just wow.
I'm amazed.
I went to the grocery store the other day and I was just minding my own business shopping for groceries. All of a sudden BAM there is this lady wearing a support President Bush shirt. I almost had to go up to her and ask her to remove said article of clothing because it infringed upon my rights as a fellow shopper.
Instead I took it to the next level and went to the customer service counter and asked to speak with a manager. I asked the manager to kindly remove the lady from the premesis because she was infringing upon my rights as a shopper. He looked at my incredulously and said that while he respected my opinion he thought that my methods were a little odd and he would be unable to help me.
So I decided to go to the Tshirt manufacture and BOYCOTT their tshirts. It turns out that the company had a really cool support Mickey Mouse for President tshirt that I just couldn't pass up. Now I am out of options and looking for somebody to complain to. |

I agree that its fine to have an avatar that expresses a political viewpoint. With that said, I am peeved when people complain about rights being infringed on when their aren't being infringed on. The constitution only says that the government can't control/censor things you say (unless it threatans the rights of others). Gentoo is in no way the government, and therfore if they chose to censor something it would in no way infringe on anyone's rights. |
