|
|
Hi guys,
I've managed to get video working almost perfectly on my LeadTek TV2000, which uses the Conexant cx88 chip. I've used the bytesex drivers, and mostly followed http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~jcs116/wintv_cx88.html.
However, I can't for the life of my get any audio sound. Not even static-channel-no-signal hiss. I have an internal audio cable (the same as the one for my cdrom) that goes from my tv card's output, to the port labelled "Aux" on my motherboard (onboard D865 sound). I have unmuted the "Aux" channel on my mixer, as well as the "Line" channel (sometimes the labelling of the ALSA drivers doesnt quite correspond to the Intel ones).
Despite this, I still get no sound. From what I've read:
Do the Conexant chips (cx88) require the tvaudio module? I believe it's only for the bttv drivers, and I've compiled it, modprobe'd it and tried, but with no success.
I can provide any output that might help, and thanks in advance for your time.
Mike. |

I'm not sure, but have you tried running a 2.5mm stereo audio jack from the sound output on your tv tuner to the line in on your soundcard? (unmute line in of course ) _________________ Kororaa install method - have Gentoo up and running quickly and easily, fully automated with an installer! |

Unfortunately the only sound-out my TV Card has is the onboard/internal one. Very annoying. I read somewhere, something about the card's sound chip having it's own volume, but I'm lost from there.
Thanks for taking an interest taskara. |

Only the very basic video capture stuff works so far. No vbi yet, no alsa/oss yet, no IR remote support yet, ... |
I only heard from an irc user, that he connect a cable from his SAT-Reciver audio output to the line in from his soundcard. Otherwiese he had no sound... I hate this f* tv card |

nps.. hmmm have you tried the OSS driver and BT848 audio driver? _________________ Kororaa install method - have Gentoo up and running quickly and easily, fully automated with an installer! |

It might be worth trying the latest snapshot of the cx88 drivers available from the bytesex website and dated 5th Feb 2004. According to the readme:
audio
- The chip specs for the on-chip TV sound decoder are next
to useless :-/
- Neverless the builtin TV sound decoder starts working now.
Which looks promising. I hope so as I've just got one of these cards really cheaply to replace my 7 year old bttv848 card and, although getting things to work is half the fun , it would be nice to have sound...

Thank you muchly for the info. Will have to check it out when I get home, but it looks much more promising. I'm currently on 2.6.2-r2 with ALSA and UDEV and all sorts of things to try and get it working.
I think during the update it spat out something about
"No BTSC support, it's coming"
with regards to audio (it's in cx88-tvaudio.c) so I'll have to try the newest snapshot I fancy.
Thanks. |

Hello everybody,
I've got same card as you, Obz, and same result, ie no sound, but great video (TVtime & XawTV).
This doc is useful : http://www.linuxhelp.net/guides/tvtuner/ (tuner 3 for me).
My kernel is 2.6.3-rc1-mm1.

current status
==============
video
Basically works. Some minor quality glitches. For now
only capture, overlay support isn't completed yet.
audio
Doesn't work. Also the chip specs for the on-chip TV sound
decoder are next to useless :-/
Most tuner chips do provide mono sound, which may or may not
be useable depending on the board design. With the Hauppauge
cards it works, so there is at least mono sound. Not nice,
but better than nothing.
vbi
not implemented yet (but I don't expect problems here, just
found no time for that yet).
how to add support for new cards
================================
The driver needs some config info for the TV cards. This stuff is in
cx88-cards.c. If the driver doesn't work well you likely need a new
entry for your card in that file. Check the kernel log (using dmesg)
to see whenever the driver knows your card or not. There is a line
like this one:
cx8800[0]: subsystem: 0070:3400, board: Hauppauge WinTV \
34xxx models [card=1,autodetected]
If your card is listed as "board: UNKNOWN/GENERIC" it is unknown to
the driver.
You can try to create a new entry yourself, or you can mail me the
config information. I need at least the following informations to
add the card:
* the PCI Subsystem ID ("0070:3400" from the line above, "lspci -v"
output is fine too).
* the tuner type used by the card. You can try to find one by
trial-and-error using the tuner=<n> insmod option. If you
know which one the card has you can also have a look at the
list in CARDLIST.tuner
Have fun,
Gerd

Finally, this card works great :
solution is to unmute the sound line in of my via82xx (blue connector).
Taskara, you're the man .
NB : About snd_bt87x
Quote: | 11. How can I map audio to my digital output?
Many bt878-based cards also support digital capture of the audio. This can be accessed using the btaudio kernel module, which registers an OSS sound device that supports 32 KHz audio capture. On a capable card, loading the module gives something like this in your system logs:
btaudio: driver version 0.7 loaded [digital+analog]
btaudio: Bt878 (rev 2) at 01:0b.1, irq: 6,
latency: 64, mmio: 0xf16ff000
btaudio: using card config "default"
btaudio: registered device dsp2 [digital]
btaudio: registered device dsp3 [analog]
btaudio: registered device mixer1
On my system /dev/dsp2 can now be used to read digital audio from the card at 32 KHz. This can be then sent out to an arbitrary soundcard using a program such as sox.
sox -r 32000 -w -t ossdsp /dev/dsp2 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp
This command reads the input at 32 KHz from /dev/dsp2 and writes it out to my soundcard at /dev/dsp. Having this run while using tvtime will enable you to perform arbitrary maps of the audio, such as playing it out the digital output of your soundcard. |
With kernel 2.6.2-mm1, partial lsmod give me :
Quote: | bt878 9008 0
tuner 16908 0
bttv 142252 2 bt878
video_buf 16708 1 bttv

Hello,
I have the hauppage wintv primio card on a nforce board and basic audio works fine with the video4linux-20031114 drivers. Subsequent releases right up to 20040225 dont seem to work for me.

I finally got sound output using the latest video4linux drivers by passing the debug=1 option to the cx8800 module. Thanks to Gerd Knorr for that. I'm not sure your prob is related to this or your alsa config. Physically, I have a small audio cable that runs from the backplane of the card into the line-in socket so there's very little chance of confusion there. |

Just thought I'd update by saying that I now have audio and black and white video, with the newest cx88 drivers (ie, not those included with the 2.6 kernel), by following the instructions found in this helpful thread:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=162597
Now, if I can only get some colour... |

Okay, seems all I needed to do was play with the color settings in TvTime *embarrased look*.
I have cx88 working perfectly now. |
