Hi,
I'm (still) trying to set up my Thinkpad r50p (with Fire GL T2).
I followed the [HOW-TO] Get ATI support in X with 2.6.x kernel using the gentoo-dev-sources.
I recompiled my kernel, using all options mentioned in the howto (as modules), and added them to modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6
(I used genkernel --config, link "linux" is ok)
then i emerged ati-drivers and ran opengl-update ati
then rebooted, emerged and ran it again, just to be save.
lsmod gives:

but still i get "(EE) No device detected"
This is my full log [UPDATED after recompiling ernel as mentioned below]:

Remove this from your XF86Config file.
If you have 1 graphics card, X will detect it automatically. I've found that fglrxconfig generates this line wrong for me, and causes X to bomb out. If it is not set, X will find it all by itself. |

Can you post the output from "dmesg"? _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

sure. already consider to send you a PM, watching some other threads i got the impression you know what you are talking about
UPDATE: I read the FAQ in your signature... I think i had enabled "Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)"
I'm compiling the kernel now without it. Let's if this works...
UPDATE: Still does not word, but now rtc-modules gives an error ([!!]) at startup, although it doesn't seem to be mentioned in dmesg (nothing in "dmesg|grep rtc")
I now updated the output after recompiling

Are both agpgart and intel_agp both being loaded as modules?
If you do a modprobe against both modules, do you get any error messages? (other than them already being in the kernel) |

Ok, that is good. Since building that kernel to it's current state, have you re-emerge'd ati-drivers?
You've said that /usr/src/linux was already pointing at the correct (2.6.0) kernel, so that is good.
I'm a bit stumped mind, I can get it to work under my Athlon/VIA combo, but I'm not so sure about the Intel stuff if that makes any difference. |

I don't see anything wrong with your dmesg output.
This may be a bit of a long shot, but try building a kernel without using genkernel. I remember a couple of people who were having problems that went away when then stopped using it. Either create a fresh copy of the kernel source dir, or run "make mrproper" in your existing dir (this will delete the old config though, you might want to make a copy instead and update the /usr/src/linux link).
I'm also wondering if the driver actually supports your card. There is supposed to be a new version out this week sometime which may help. Can you post the output from "lspci"? _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

Well, it seems your card isn't supported yet, but I just read a post from Matthew Tippett (ATI Linux dev) over on the Rage3D forums (link) that says:
Quote: | The FireGL T2 is supported in the upcoming Linux release.
Stay tuned.

Like I said, the new version should be out this week sometime _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

That would explain it, although I did find it odd given the driver says this:
Quote: | ATI RV350 AT (Fire GL T2), ATI RV350 AU (Fire GL T2),
ATI RV350 AV (Fire GL T2), ATI RV350 AW (Fire GL T2), |
Ah well, roll on the new version. Might be worth trying the default radeon driver in XFree for the moment - see if that works any better?! |

you know there is a desktop card with this name, too?
well, i used last night to reinstall my complete gentoo, mainly due to some mess with kernel versions (you get a lot of experience while installing)
it still does not work. i will wait for the new release, then i will contact ati |

well, it appears the problem is instead your card, but i have the 9000 pro and was getting the same error as you. my fix for it was to go into the XF86Config-4 file the ati config program produced, and change a few of teh busID parameters. it had configured CRT-out and TV-out as the same busID, when they instead hd to to be PCI:2:0:0 and PCI:2:0:1 (respectivly) a small little fix that did wonders for me . (do a cat /proc/pci to see where stuff is). good luck |

I installed ati-drivers 3.7 now, and it works.
But I am a bit disappointed about my glxgears score... only around 10000 frames in 5 seconds... (standard windowssize) do you think this is normal?
around 155 fps in 1600x1200 fullscreen... |

Ok! Check these steps:
1. Have you compiled the fglrx module correctly, and are using it in XFree's config?
2. Are the agpgart & agp chipset driver both compiled as modules, as well as being modprobe'd into the system (/etc/modules.autoload.d/blah does this)
3. Post your XFree log, that may also help. /var/log/XFree.0.log. |

Your problem is that you have a module called "radeon" loaded. This is a DRM module, and will prevent the fglrx driver from working properly. If you've got DRM support in your kernel (under Character Devices -> Direct Rendering Manager), disable it. If you've emerged xfree-drm, get rid of it with "emerge -C xfree-drm". The "radeon" driver doesn't support the 9600, so you aren't losing anything by doing that. Once you've gotten rid of the DRM stuff, try starting X again and hopefully things will work this time. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

I have disabled the Rendering option you suggest and i removed RADEON in the kernel boot config file pis I still got 330 FPS and I still can't play games..... I didn't emerged Xfree ou Xfree-drm, when i emerged ATI-DRIVERS, it emerged itself Xfree... |

Try setting "UseInternalAGPGART" to "no" in your XF86Config. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra
