So Ive been a thorn in the side of a zealot who goes by Jacob at http://lies.mojobox.org and it occurs to me to ask, since he always talks about how great a programer he is and how he has contributed so much to the open source movement with a heavy slant on Gentoo, if anyone knew anything about this guy?

(poof)

Thanks!

Forum search will help you with that.

I am not sure on the legal position of framing another person's site. There were a few cases when the web first became popular.

His blog is quite an amusing read, and I think he must just be leting rip. But, it is not obviously just a parody all the time, a real work of masterpiece or the result of a troubled soul, hard to tell. Anyway, as long you are all having fun. Some of the insults he receives are a bit nasty though, and it would be sad to see it just descend into I am going to kill your pet hamster you piece of sh*t blah blah blah.

And what is with the 'can I install portage on a different distro?', do you really care? I will dignify it with a response, but only so you don't have to hide behind a faked 'genuine question' either to legitimise yourself or in some way to gander favour from the Gentoo crowd.

You can install portage on any Linux system, but why would you want to? Portage installs and manages the applications on the system. So, using it with another package management system would probably just result in a degree of confusion or a bloated system.

Oh, and you probably want to know if he does exist here. I have no idea, the blog style does not match the posters I am aware of.

Wow, thinly veiled spite.

I personally dont care about gaining favor in the gentoo "crowd" since I am a slackware user but this one tool does interest me, so if you have a problem with me rolling one question with a second I would advise you to keep it to yourself.

And to reply to your legality wonders, its very obviously a parrody of a parrody. Parrodies are excluded from US copyright laws.

No spite intended, I assure you.

You might have been better off though in spliting your post into two posts. That's why you are geting a fairly luke warm response to your question.

Who knows with American Law, but it does look like people are ganging up against him. I tend to support the underdog when that happens.

Slack is probably the best distro to use with portage but as far I know slack normally compiles from scratch anyway, or you just get a tar ball of a binary. So, you will only be out of sync with any software you installed with slack.

Combustible, it's spelt parody. Say it with me, eh? PARODY. Also, it's plural is parodies. And I strongly advise you, don't install Portage on other distros, it destroys the Gentoo philosophy. Besides, why not just install Gentoo? It's not THAT much of a hassle, is it? Sure, it's easy. Sure, it works well. But why? It seems pointless to me why you would want to run Portage on anything else. And another thing: why post an ethics question THEN a question about the distro that can be solved with an easy search? Lets be reasonable here, and not mock psychoanalyze someones questioning of your ethics. Lets be reasonable here, not start flame wars.

Fine the 2nd question is gone, I got my answer anyhow.

As to why I dont use Gentoo, its preference, which are like assholes... Everyone has one, but not many people care so much about the one you have. :D

Asking to not start a flame war in the same post you corrected a person's spelling mistake is... Lets say, not a reasonable thing to do. Lets be reasonable here, and not say "Lets be reasonable here" more than once per paragraph. :o

I'm a reasonable guy, what can I say. Thanks for removing the second question. I'm just wondering, why ios your preference agains Gentoo? I mean, it's very close to slackware just with Portage, which seems to be what you would like.

Anyhoo, I have digressed from the topic at hand. To the opposition; your attempts did not and shall not work. Let this be a lesson to you. All true Gentoo users share a common bond that cannot be broken by a simple "troll" on our message boards. It is a shame it took a verbal lashing from the GDC for you to learn that lesson. I would have expected a better attempt but alas, perhaps my standards are set too high.

Are you going to comment on the quote? Perhaps give us your opinion?

I don't think you got owned and now all your bases belonging to us, or whatever the phrase is, and I think it is a bit ripe of old Jacob saying anyone rallied to his cause.

But then, I also think you posted here in an attempt to piss on his parade.

The pair of you are quite an amusing but disruptive force.

Go on tell us what you want to tell us, and let's see if that sparks off a debate, stop pussy footing around.

Trouble? What is this, a blogger pissing contest spilling over into the Gentoo Forums? Anyone got a mop? :? If you decide to stay with us, do keep in mind that we completely lack tolerance when it comes to ad hominem attacks.

The main "Portage on other distros" thread is split in two halves:
Installing Portage on Other Distros
Installing portage on other distros, easier than ever

Your use of ad hominem is incorrect. Had you visited the site you would see that all arguments against Jacob have been founded in logic, not emotion.

How amusing is this, the saga twists and turns.

I have to retract my earlier comments of you not being owned combustible.

http://lies.mojobox.org

it seems impossible to maintain that you have not now been pawnzed.

I don't understand that website or the initial post...

[edit] I realize my post adds nothing worthwhile to this topic, but I really don't get it. Besides, this topic adds nothing worthwhile to the forum :P

It is quite hard to explain in English, easy if you had seen it.

Code:

<frameset> <!-- Location lies.mojobox.com //-->
<frame src='http://jacobsrantings' />
<frame src='somemsgboard' />
</frameset>

Someone went in and changed http://jacobsrantings to a site listing the definitions of owned:
http://owneddefintions.

[Edit -- the following is supposedly not true]

So, to sum it up some naughty person cracked the lies.mojobox.org site to remove the external link to Jacob's site, and replace it with an external link to another site giving the defintion of owned.

aethyr: all that I can make out, is that a blogger under the name of Jacob has pissed off some guy called Combustible/Jedi through his blog or something else. Jacob claims to be a huge gentoo fan so Combustible is here to track him down, I think.

myuser is pretty close actually...

i had lies.mojobox.org setup because he had a habit of deleting coments from people who refute things he says, which is totally his right....
...but i have a problem with someone doing that while at the same time claiming to be someone who wouldnt.

so i had the coment thing setup to just dump his page in a frame but this morning he added some javascript to forward referals from lies.mojobox.org to a dictionary page for "owned".

so i took it a bit further with a little php love and parsed out his scripting.

so um. yeah. its a pissing contest.
