|
|
Hi,
I'm trying automatic mounting with supermount and now with submount. I edited the fstab as the docs said. Automatic mounting works well with supermount - going into /mnt/cdrom, my CD-ROM gets mounted. But I can not eject it anymore... (I went away from this dir, no program holds files on the CD.)
Secnd try, submount. Automatic mounting is on, CD-ROM gets mounted when I cd into the dir. But I can't eject the drive...
(Plus, if using subfs and issue df to see mounted partitions, it takes a lot of time because subfs tries to scan my floppy, dvd, cdrom and mount them, but there is nothing in the drives.)
On another machine, submount works well as expected. df shows that /mnt/cdrom and /mnt/floppy has no medium if they are empty, but it is not too bad, I will not issue df anymore. And I can eject the CD with the drive's eject button.
What can be the problem? Some kernel modules are incompatible with submount? I have recompiled my kernel with autofs as module only, it is not loaded, but no success...
Regards,

Ups, one more thing. Now I recompiled my kernel without supermount, and did not load subfs. So, I use the "traditional" fstab/mount manual procedure.
I mount my cdrom, access it, browse. Than go away from the directory, umount it, and can't eject...
I use normal mount/umount, and I have to force to eject the cdrom with eject after unmounting!
What the hell is this? Does anyone have any clue?

I once had a similar problem, but I wasnt using supermount, submount or anything.
All it took was a BIOS update to fix it.
I updated by mainboard bios and my cd drive bios, so I am not sure which one fixed the problem, but google for your hardware and see if anyone else has the same problem of if there is a BIOS update available.

Thanks!
But my mainboard BIOS is up-to-date, CD-ROM was never updated, but it worked before...

Anyone...?
Now, I can hardly use my machine as I used to... Ejecting is a real pain.

I tried submount for a while.
The same problem happened but only when I used Konguerer, with Midnight kommander and Krusader no problems.
Switched back to Supermount and no problems with ejecting the CD.
If this is the case for your system may this can help you, I did not try it:
(It is an excerpt from supermount Faq's)
Q: When I enter into /mnt in Konqueror LED on CD-ROM/floppy blink constantly and Konqueror is very unrepsonsive.
A: Konqueror tries to monitor for changes in directory /mnt and subdirectories. By default it does it by simply reading directory contents approximately every second. Of course supermount attempts to mount media every time Konqueror tries to list /mnt/cdrom etc.
I suggest you enable FAM if your system supports it. In this case Konqueror asks FAM to monitor directories; and FAM does it by requesting kernel to send notification instead of constantly polling for changes. This is supported by supermount since versions 1.2.8 and 2.0.1 for kernels 2.4 and 2.6 resp.
If it is not an option see previous item how to fix things for CD-ROM. There is no way to do the same for floppy.

Thanks, but I had the problem with Midnight Commander, too, in console...
But some days ago, it is good. I don't know why, because didn't change the settings...
I think it should be related to that I enabled DMA for my CDROM and DVD. But in dmesg, I saw that it generates errors. Data transfer was, however, very fast. And eject didn't work.
But now I see that transfer is very slow. Maybe my IDE controller starts dying, and now I can't enable DMA mode - and, voila, submount works well.
