I can't find this in the man page or by searching, but is there some way to remove the bars that appear and just have the same titlebar as for normal windows? |

There is a dedicated thread to fvwm where lots of config files are available. You may find what you search there |

Yes, the answer is in the giant FVWM thread: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=80517 That thread is 36 pages long, so to quote myself:

I had to hack the source code though, since apparently it's hard-coded that sticky windows and icons automatically have stippling. If you have fvwm-2.5.10, in fvwm/icons.c, line 1085, and in fvwm/borders.c, line 3386 need to be changed. Should be obvious how to change them, just return; right before those lines or whatever. |
