http://people.redhat.com/drepper/nptl-design.pdf

To install it
Code:
USE="nptl" emerge glibc

OR

add nptl to your USE flag inside your /etc/make.conf

Note: For kernel 2.6.x only

You do need a 2.6 kernel, however.

I am planning to install gentoo. I want nptl support in my new gentoo. So, after installing kernel 2.6 with genkernel ( I am so damn lazy ), I have to emerge nptl & glibc, right???? But do I have to recompile my kernel 2.6 to add support for nptl???

u do not need to emerge nptl. All u need is to do a add the nptl to your USE flag inside your make.conf. then emerge glibc

Don't you need 2.6 kernel headers, not just a 2.6 kernel?

arr i recompiled libc with nptl support and now X wont start.

And there are no entries abt why it wouldnt in /var/log/messages or /var/log/Xorg.log
just a seg fault at the command line

I am using kernel2.6.????

I donjt understand I have heard nptl is good but it wont work. Is there and option in the kernel that needs to be turned on as well

could post the output of `emerge info`?

I've been trying to get this enabled for a while now and have been hitting a brick wall. See my other posts for details. I am really curious to see what you have running in order for this to work.

Thanks

Are you using nvidia or ati proprietary drivers? If you are then you need to re-emerge them after compiling your kernel.

just added nptl to USE flags and re-emerged glibc.
After that X-server wouldn't start.
re-emerge nvidia-kernel & nvidia-glx and all back to work.

Actually, it's Native Posix Threads Library

Code:
$ /lib/libc.so.6

...
Available extensions:

AFAIK it is save now. There might be smaller isues with some things (e.g. if you installed a 2.6 kernel for it the first time you need to re-emrge your gfx drivers), but nothing serious.
