hello,
i completely new to gentoo (not to linux). all night long (and this morning) my computer is compiling / emerging openoffice. it looks like it'll take some more time. so i was wondering, can i emerge another program while this is compiling? since i'm waiting here now and i really need to burn a cd, but i don't have the software installed...
greetz,

Yup! You might find yourself in trouble if both emerges are trying to install the same dependencies, but if they're both installing totally seperate packages, it'll be fine. _________________ No-one's more important than the earthworm. |

In fact it is possible to run multiple instances of emerge at the same time, but also a little "dangerous", as you have to be sure there are no dependencies between the different packages merged... the comman advice is "don't do it unless you know what you do" !

hmm, i thought i would be something like that. is there a way to find out wether two programs have dependecies between them? i checked with --pretend and ofcourse OOo and k3b aren' t directly dependent, but i think they botrh will be compiling against kde or qt and so. so that might be a problem or not?
