Hi!
I'm new to Gentoo, and currently trying to emerge Gnome. With emerge -p gnome I saw a lot of dependencies. Is there a way to install just a minimum of gnome? Something like the kdebase?
Thanks a lot!

Do an emerge -pv gnome, copy the list somewhere, and install only the relevant parts that you need to get a gnome desktop up and running.
The gnome ebuild itself doesn't contain any code - it is only a metapackage that installs all the rest.
You probably only need gnome-libs, desktop, utils, pager and a few others.
Also try kdrive instead of xfree if minimal is your goal - it's less than half the size.
Then emerge -pv each of these parts seperately to see what deps they have.
This allows you to install only the absolute minimum.
Alternatively you can copy the gnome ebuild and change it to suit your needs - this would by far be the easiest way. _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

I think gnome-light is what you might want though I've never tried that minimal installation.
Code: | emerge -pv gnome-light |
This is supposed to install gnome without all the bloat like Mozilla etc. |
