There is a problem with superkaramba themes always running in the top level. It can be fixed. See: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=969482&forum_id=67470

Just incase anyone wanted to know.

Thanks. You should file a bugreport to bugs.gentoo, so this patch could be included in the ebuild.

Thanks for the link.

However, I can't find karamba.cpp !! :cry:

Where is it supposed to be?

I just emerged superkaramba and downloaded a theme. I get the transparency problem... But now I want to correct it, and a complete search on my drive showed me no karamba.cpp!!

Any ideas?

Tristure,

After getting very frustrated trying to roll back to version 0.32 of superkaramba and getting compile errors, and searching for the karamba.cpp file like yourself I finally got it all working (KDE3.2 and sk 0.33 that is).

1) moved the superkaramba-0.33.tar.gz source code file to another directory and unzipped and untarred the file. The karamba.cpp file was in the src directory.

2) edited/commented out the KWin::setType(winId(), NET::Dock) "offending" line

3) renamed the orginal. re-tarred and zipped the newly created file (using original name)

4) moved the new file back into the /usr/portage/distfiles directory

5) went into /usr/portage/x11-misc/superkaramba/files directory. copied the original 0.33 version digest file, and modified the md5sum in the new 0.33 digest file to reflect the newly created source code file.
(all I changed was the md5sum within the digest file I didn't touch anything else)

Sorry if any of this isn't clear. I wasn't that sure about what I was doing either but now I have superkaramba-0.33 up and running within KDE 3.2 and it stays properly in the background where I want it.

Hope this helps.

Hottex

You might check the path of that emerge there is a trailing k (/var/tmp/portage/superkaramba-0.33/wor k). Maybe thats just a text copy problem though.

Code:

bash-2.05b# emerge superkaramba
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) x11-misc/superkaramba-0.33 to /
>>> md5 src_uri superkaramba-0.33.tar.gz
>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking superkaramba-0.33.tar.gz to /var/tmp/portage/superkaramba-0.33/wor k

gzip: stdin: decompression OK, trailing garbage ignored
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

!!! ERROR: x11-misc/superkaramba-0.33 failed.
!!! Function unpack, Line 332, Exitcode 2
!!! failure unpacking superkaramba-0.33.tar.gz

[/code]

Just incase anyone wanted to know.

Maybe this patch should be in the official SuperKaramba 0.33 ebuild?

(Yes, I know... I should learn how to do that myself...)

Thanks a lot! Fixed it perfectly, hopefully they'll fix it in the tree so other people won't have to do this.

Thanks :D Mine works good now too. I just found another bug... maybe xfree related. My LiquidWeather app goes all black when X returns from PM-Standby. I'll just live with the screensaver alone.

PostPosted: Tue Mar 09, 2004 8:37 am    Post subject: Superkaramba on laptop Reply with quote

Hi there, I have a question related to superkaramba and my laptop... don't know if I shoud post it in here or under laptops...

But anyway, on my laptop I have a SiS650/651/M650/740 PCI/AGP VGA Display adapter. On this laptop I need dual head for giving some presentations. So, after configuring my XFConfig file everything works quite right... I have two screens now,

Code:
"Screen1" RightOf "Screen0"

For this I am using Winischhofer's driver. http://www.winischhofer.net/linuxsisvga.shtml

Now the problem: I have created a script for starting superkaramba located in ~/.kde/Autostart/ which lookes like this:

Code:

#!/bin/bash
cd /home/rdehuyss/.superkaramba/
superkaramba liquid_weather_plus/liquid_weather.theme tmon-1.3/tmon-1.3_liquid.theme &

But this script creates a superkaramba on "Screen1" and "Screen0" where I just want one on "Screen0", the lcd screen on my laptop because of 2 reasons:
First, the projector I am working with has a maximum resolution of 640*480 and the superkaramba fills the whole screen. Second, when I click on a superkaramba if there are two instances of it, it hangs and doesn't get refreshed anymore.

So, that's about it...

Anybody an idea how to start only one instance of superkaramba on "Screen0"?

Thanks in advance,
Ronald

PostPosted: Sat Mar 13, 2004 3:37 am    Post subject: How to apply patch? Reply with quote

Hmm... I'm having the same problem with Superkaramba themes overriding the windows and don't really want to go through everything to fix it. According to the bug report (see https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40839) there's a ptach in the portage to fix it. I've tried reemerging superkaramba but that didn't do it. I've also searched through the packages for some some of patch but don't see one. Does anyone know how to apply it? Thanks.

I still have this problem too, even after unmerging everything and remerging it from 33-r1 :( ... It seems like the bug is being cached.. very strange.. I've also updated to KDE 3.2.1 in the hope this would fix it.

Transparent windows still overlay ontop of other windows when ontop=true is set. :(

superkaramba-0.33-r1 fixes the issue in kde3.2 but it's masked so you need to do this...
Code:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p superkaramba
If you want portage to leave it alone and not downgrade it when you 'emerge -u world' then add it to the /etc/portage/package.keywords file like this...
Code:
x11-misc/superkaramba

Yes, there is a fix. It's pretty easy to do (frustrating that it took a while to figure out) and it does work.

1. emerge superkaramba
2. once the package has been placed into the work directory in portage (but before any compiling begins) hit ctrl+z to pause emerge.
3. go into the work directory shown in the output from the emerge process when it was paused.
4. go into the superkaramba-0.33 folde and edit the file karamba.cpp; got to line that reads "KWin::setType(winId(), NET::Dock); and change it to read "// KWin::setType(winId(), NET::Dock);"
5. save the file
6. continue the emerge (using the command "fg")

Superkaramba should emerge without any more hassles and the always on top irritation will be a thing of the past.

Good luck with it

Hi Floks,
im new to Gentoo (but not to Linux) and to this board :)
i have emerged superkaramba yesterday and get the same problem, that is
discussed here. why isn't this bug fixed already in superkaramba? or is it only
a gentoo-problem?

i dont think, its a genereal kde 3.2 <=> superkaramba problem, because under knoppix with kde 3.2 and superkaramba there is not this funy bug.

so long,
Archy :wink:

thanks for the tip olias2! I ran the following:

emerge /usr/portage/x11-misc/superkaramba/superkaramba-0.33-r1

Works great!
