Is there any way of installing gentoo without having an internet connection? (As you installed Mandrake... with only need of cdroms, not need of internet connection)

It doesn't matter if I have to download things from different parts
and make an "ad hoc" cdrom.
Anyone knows something about it?

get past the stage 1 untar step.
do an emerge rsync so the portage tree is built (about 20 min 33.6k)
do emerge -pf system > files.txt
from the list in files.txt
visit friend with broadband
ftp from ibiblio by hand or whatever
put all the ftp'd files into /usr/portage/distfiles
you can now emerge offline

there is a script somebody wrote here in the forums. search on "dial-up" script if you want to find it.

err... when you get to friends with broadband, all that is necessary is:

Code:

emerge -f system

you can list several packages simply by putting a space between them

Um... it seems I have to run emerge from a linux machine connected to internet. But I have only Windows ones (As being at university). Is it still possible to do such thing... with a win32 compilation of the program or something.

Ok, I'll search for it. But... I don't have a linux machine...

I suppose /usr/portage/distfiles is in the linux machine connected to internet which I don't have (as I told you before)

I think my question is: Is it possible to install gentoo offline given a:

1) Very good internet connection Windows 2000 Proffesional PC
2) And a burner or an usb drive/hd in order to transport/take to/move data to the offline computer.

Thank you for any help you can provide me in advance.
