hi!

after writing #hdparm -d1 /dev/hda i get back sth like this:

/deva/hda

setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)

why? and how fix it?

regards
raaf

I am not sure about the hdparm output but have you enabled DMA in kernel?? If u do that, DMA is automaticly enabled during boot.

enable this in ATA section of device drivers (this is for kernel 2.6.x)

ATA support
Include IDE/ATA-2 Disk support
Use multimode by default
IDE taskfile IO (optional I guess)
PCI IDE chipset support
Sharing pci ide interrupts support
Generic PCI BUS Master DMA support
Use PCI DMA by default when available
VIA82CXXX chipset support
