Good news:
I posted this GCC bug report and according to Andrew Pinski, a GCC dev, 3.4 final will be released today or tomorrow (19 or 20 Apr).

Quote:
Confirmed in 3.3.3 as a regression from 2.95.3, already fixed in 3.4.0 (which should be released today
or tommorrow) and the mainline.

could anyone list a few of the neat things that'll be in 3.4?
What do we have to look forward to ;) (besides hours of compiling ;) )

It's all here http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-3.4/changes.html.

Some nice optimisation improvement, precompiled headers (not sure how helpful thta will be to an average Gentoo system though). And optimisation's for AMD64 chips, if you have one. Also, I believe it's much stricter with regards to accepting c/c++ code, so alot of code may need to be changed to make them more standards compliant.

I really need that new gcc 3.4, since my gcc-3.3.3 seems to not be working. Details

looking forward to the 3.4.0 release in the portage tree.
will be building a new system from stage1.
is there a short list of packages which will just refuse to
compile with 3.4.0 anywhere?
TIA
