Has anyone tried it yet? It's hit ~x86 now, apparently.

Please tell us how it went, since i've heard about some problems in x86.

Ooh, I hadn't noticed it was in ~amd64 as well.

Remember, folks, using ACCEPT_KEYWORDS is bad for your system! Here's a guess at what you should add to /etc/portage/package.keywords (stolen from the ~x86 version and mangled slightly):

Code:

Judging from the above, I'll stick to what I have done always - ACCEPT_KEYWORDS in make.conf.

If you want to use ~amd64 for everything, adding it in make.conf is fine.

The problem comes if (like me) you want to use amd64 for most things, and only use ~amd64 when it's needed. Then you have to use package.keywords, otherwise portage will want to downgrade things to their amd64 versions. (And specifying a global ACCEPT_KEYWORDS during the compile will mean you end up with more ~amd64 packages than you need).

It compiled just fine but I have some problems. Epiphany web browser doesn't even start. users-admin also crashes right after start.

Well, I made it :)... most things seem to be working fine.

Epiphany doesn't work... here's the error message:

Code:

epiphany: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/mozilla/components/libnecko.so: undefined symbol: PR_GetAddrInfoByName

I'm not too bothered, since I use Opera.

Everything installed fine for me, but it is unbearably slow. 2.6 worked fine, but with 2.8 it's so slow I can't even scroll through webpages. FVWM and flux work fine.

top shows X running at anywhere from 20%CPU all the way up to 98% when I'm using 2.8. Memory usage is fine. gdm isn't showing any noticeable slowdown either. It's only when I'm in gnome that it becomes impossible to use.

9800pro, msi k8n neo platinum, 1gb ram, 3400+

Anyone have any idea what this could be?

EDIT: Xorg 6.8.0 in case it matters.

ive been using it for about 2 weeks now, all works well, no issues with it at all, only thing i want is for me to be able to rename devices found by hal, but apparently thats coming at some point, which is great because hal is excellent, recognises all drives, cd-roms etc and mounts them.

If you are using Xorg 6.8.0 turn off the Composite Option in your xorg.conf.

To get evolution to work you need to edit two lines in /etc/services
-imap2 143/tcp # Interim Mail Access Proto v2
-imap2 143/udp
+imap2 143/tcp imap # Interim Mail Access P 2 and 4
+imap2 143/udp imap

see bug 66166, will be fixed in the next baselayout.

I found the workaround of epiphany startup failure.
For my case, following line works fine.
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/mozilla:/usr/lib epiphany

I have found that epiphany 1.2.9-r1 works fine without some patches.
However, i don't know why the problem happens.
