|
|
I am having extreme difficulty getting the 2.6 kernel to boot on my system. I have tried everything I could find on the boards that sounded even possibly relevent without success.
Essentially, my problem is that I cannot get the 2.6 kernel to boot on my system. Initially I tried booting with the 2.6 Live CD but was treated to a GPF. Thinking it was the Live CD, I got a 2.4 one and was able to boot and do an install (but had to put SATA in 'compatable mode' in the BIOS to get the 2.4 to load). Anyways, after building my own 2.6 kernel, I recieved the exact same error trying to boot as I did on the Live CD. This is the error I get:
Code: |
PnPBIOS: Scanning system for PnP BIOS support...
PnPBIOS: Found PnP BIOS installation structure at 0xc00f5270
PnPBIOS: PnP BIOS version 1.0, entry 0xf0000:0x5e5a, dseg 0xf0000
general protection fault: 0000 [#1]
CPU: 0
EIP: 0098:[<00002aa0>] Not tainted
EFLAGS: 00010083
EIP is at 0x2aa0
-----
Bunch of hex and stack dump stuff which I'll be happy to supply if someone thinks it will help
-----
Call trace:
Code: Bad EIP value.
<0>Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
|
My hardware specs are as follows:
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
Intel P4 3.2Ghz
1GB Corsair RAM
Radeon 9800 XT
Audigy 2 NX
Again, I have tried everything I could think of. Disabling HT, toggling the SATA mode, other misc. BIOS settings, recompiling without SMP/ACPI/Whatever, etc. The error I recieve pretty much pointed me nowhere in specific.
Any insight, advice, or fun things to try would be greatly appreciated!

I removed PnP BIOS support from the kernel and everything worked like a charm!
