|
|
I have the latest autoconf-2.59-r4 package installed, but autoconf identifies itself as version 2.13:
Code: | % qpkg -i autoconf
sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r4 *
(snip)
% which autoconf
/usr/bin/autoconf
% autoconf --version
Autoconf version 2.13 |
After snooping around in my system a little bit, I found that actually points to a perl script that selects version 2.13 unless I tell it explicitly to use version 2.59, either by setting some environment variable, or by editing some config file.
Now, setting an enviroment variable is not a big deal, of course, but I still would like to know the reason for this strange behavior. If I install the 2.59 package, I would expect version 2.59 to be active by default!?
Can anybody explain this to me? Should this be considered a bug?
I actually almost filed a bug report, but then I thought I'd better ask on the forum first. |

I have exactly the same porblem on one of my gentoo boxes. On the other one i can set the enviroment variable and it works fine. I don't know why it doesn't work in the right way... |

It has been done this way in both distroes that I have used, so I don't think this is a bug, more of a backwards compability thing. _________________ regards, Esben
