Pre-caching applications [SOLVED]

Hi,

After a fresh start I notice that opening firefox or chrome takes a few seconds. This only happens the first time I open each browser. After that they open in about a second which seams right. It's not really a problem, but I wonder how that is possible. I guess it must be caching something somewhere. I would like to find out where and how I can control it. Can I manually manage what happens? I would like to be able to disable the caching if desired or enable it (pre-caching) so that after a fresh boot the browsers start immediately. Is that possible?

p.s. I am using KDE if that make any difference.

In case my explanation was confusing. I know that KDE has a start up feature to start apps at boot. However, that will actually open the app. I don't want it to open by default. I would just like to pre-cache them so that they open quicker.

This is most likely disk-cache, which is handled by the kernel: Files once read remain in memory, as long as there is enough memory. To simulate this, you would need to read all files from the application, and (in case of firefox), from your firefox profile. To collect all these files is a tedious task, but I think you should cover most of it with the following directories:

It seams to pre-cache applications is not quite as straight forward as I hoped as most of it is done by the kernel. E4rat looks promising but is for ext4 only and apparently not recommended for ssd. I might just wait until I got a ssd and the issue might no longer be present. Anyway, thanks for the info it is very much appreciated!
