What are the use cases for the debian infrastructure packages in portage e.g. debootstrap, dpkg? Building debian packages? Debian-based containers?
I use Gentoo on my own laptop and server, but deploy applications to Ubuntu hosts. |

I can't find any documentation on using dpkg -b directory in Gentoo to build .deb packages targeting Ubuntu. I'd like to do so first for a python package, with an init script.
Is there anything written about this?

I've never seen any; if you can't find anything, then why not write up your experiences here? Get the material together for a wikipage, and others will collaborate with you.
For something like this, I'd imagine it's basically a case of trying to follow upstream debian and ubuntu docs, and seeing what's different or breaks. Links to those in the first instance, the ones you've found useful in that context, would be a good start for others to see what you're trying to do, perhaps try it out themselves, and feedback to you. |
