I recently bought a Sony Vaio Tap 11 (SVT1122F4E). It has windows 8 preinstalled and I want to dual boot gentoo.
I use the UEFI bootable linux media System Rescue USB flash drive (http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/UEFI_Dual_boot_with_Windows_7/8)

There is no ethernet, only wireless.
The network controller is Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (rev 6b).
In dmegs:
iwllwifi ...enabling LOS
ADDRCONF (NETDEV_UP):wlp2s0: link is not ready

using iwconfig...
ESSID:"OK"
Encription Key: XXXX-XXX.... (but not able to set it by iwconfig wlp2s0 key s: XXX... Had to use iwconfig wlp2s0 enc XXX)
---------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM: Access Point: Not associated
if I set it manually as from iwlist, then the ESSID disappeard. IS THIS A POSSIBLE ROOT CAUSE?
-------
when I dhcpcd wlp2s0 , it says: waiting for carrier, timed out

Thanks in advance :?

Hello,

Start the graphical mode (startix), then try with Network Manager (the icon on the taskbar).

I cannot! SytemRescueCD only provides XFCE as desktop manager and also it does not work properly (does not respond upon click on icons). I need to work from command line. by the way, fonts are terribly small in the console and cannot find a way to increase their size (rebooting overwrites conf files).
So, i need to use iwconfig or otherwise wpa_supplicant. In the second case, I cannot find any wpa_supplicant.conf file by default.

How do you click? If it is with the touchpad, you need to activate the tapping with:
Code:
synclient tapbutton1=1
synclient tapbutton2=2
synclient tapbutton3=3

And the resolution can be adadpted in the parameters.

You cannot connect to WPA/WPA2 by iwconfig, only WEP or open, its why u cannot set password - it has to be WEP (10 or 26 hexes).
I think only wpa_supplicant handles it from console, google how to make wpa_supplicant.conf and start it ( I think wpa_gui can create it, but u need X running)
