Couple of weeks ago along with skype update pulseaudio was installed.
Skype is the main communication channel in our company so I don't need alternatives here. And I guess keeping it up-to-date is also important (what if it looks good some day).

And now some audio players work and some don't.

I could live with some of this problems.
But inability to up/lower/mute sound in KDE by pressing on keyboard is unbearable.

Quote:

# amixer set Master 1dB+
No protocol specified
xcb_connection_has_error() returned true
Simple mixer control 'Master',0
Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Mono
Limits: Playback 0 - 64
Mono: Playback 34 [53%] [-30.00dB] [on]

Can someone please suggest alternative to shortcut sound manipulation or to reconcile alsa with pulseaudio.

Thanks

Hello Coviex!

I also have problems between alsa and pulseaudio https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-994372.html. But whenever pulseaudio is more used each day.

Pulseaudio works on alsa, not parallel. Phonon of KDE is not very powerful, you can install an addon as pavucontrol to configure pulseaudio.

Good luck

I run gentoostudio.org, and I keep pulseaudio out of it, but I know it can be done because kxstudio does it. Maybe they might have some general advice on that over at http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/.

You have a few choices:

• You can prevent Pulseaudio from screwing with your hardware volume control by disabling module-udev-detect and adding module-alsa-{source,sink} lines to the default.pa config file. You might want to change "flat-volumes" in daemon.conf too.
• If you have a non-crappy sound card, or can use more than one, copy the pulseaudio ebuild to your local overlay and rip out the incorrect USE depend on "alsa-plugins[pulseaudio]", which will let your ALSA programs use the card directly instead of PA getting in the way.
