For some time I've had issues with corrupted or entirely absent images. It manifests in various applications (Firefox, NetworkManager, InkScape, gnome-mplayer, etc). In general it seems to be that if a png is scaled it appears either corrupted, with alternating vertical lines entirely white or completely transparent. If the images appears at native scale, it renders just fine. Presently, there doesn't appear to be an alternative version of libpng in protage to try. Does anyone else have this problem?

Greetings,

Haven't had the issue that you are experiencing, but as a comparison, I decided to check what I am running and would post here to see if you might be missing something or have a different config on yours:

Code:
 ~ # equery depgraph media-libs/libpng-1.6.10
 * Searching for libpng1.6.10 in media-libs ...

 * dependency graph for media-libs/libpng-1.6.10
 `--  media-libs/libpng-1.6.10  amd64
   `--  sys-libs/zlib-1.2.8-r1  (>=sys-libs/zlib-1.2.8-r1) amd64  [abi_x86_32(-)? abi_x86_64(-)? abi_x86_x32(-)? abi_mips_n32(-)? abi_mips_n64(-)? abi_mips_o32(-)?]
   `--  app-arch/xz-utils-5.0.5-r1  (app-arch/xz-utils) amd64
[ media-libs/libpng-1.6.10 stats: packages (3), max depth (1) ]
 ~ # emerge -pv libpng zlib xz-utils

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R    ] app-arch/xz-utils-5.0.5-r1  USE="nls threads -static-libs" ABI_X86="(64) (-32) (-x32)" 0 kB
[ebuild   R    ] sys-libs/zlib-1.2.8-r1  USE="minizip static-libs" ABI_X86="(64) (-32) (-x32)" 0 kB
[ebuild   R    ] media-libs/libpng-1.6.10:0/16  USE="apng static-libs (-neon)" ABI_X86="(64) (-32) (-x32)" 0 kB

Total: 3 packages (3 reinstalls), Size of downloads: 0 kB
 ~ #

I left the depgraph at the default of '1' because if you go just one deeper, you get automake, autoconf and libtool.

HTH. Let us know.

Sorry for the delayed response; I got distracted. The only difference I can see is that you've got libpng and zlib compiled with USE="static-libs". I'll try those settings and see if they make a difference.
