Do you want to edit the Gnome Menu / Starter? For this task I use x11-misc/alacarte. But it has some Bugs, since Gnome 3.6 the custom Icons for my custom menu entries won't show _________________ # cd /pub/

If someone is interested to learn how to add applications.
1) Use alacarte
2) Edit the files created by alacarte (if running as your user the files will be drop in $HOME/.local/share/applications directory with extension .desktop)
3) For the icons, you have to have 4 different size of icons in PNG format, drop the files in $HOME/.local/share/icons/hicolor/NxN/apps where N is 128, 48, 32 and 16.
In the .desktop file, the Icon entry should be provided without any pathname nor extension. So, for example, suppose you want to add Eclipse and you have an icon in all the four directories 128x128/apps, 48x48/apps, 32x32/apps, 16x16/apps called Eclipse_luna.png your entry in your Eclipse.desktop for the icon will be:
You can look at sample .desktop files for other applications you can find them in /usr/share/applications.
Unfortunately, it seems alacarte fails to handle this properly and entirely when creating the desktop file. If you select a file as it was possible with Gnome 2, it won't work because it will pick a single size file in a fixed directory. _________________ Achille Talon Hop! |
