I emerged net-im/skype-4.2.0.13.
I can see its bin is in /opt/bin/.
But, if I start skype, I get the message:
bash: skype: command not found
Further information that eventually can be useful:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
strace -f /opt/bin/skype
execve("/opt/bin/skype", ["/opt/bin/skype"], [/* 44 vars */]) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
write(2, "strace: exec: No such file or di"..., 40strace: exec: No such file or directory
) = 40
exit_group(1) = ?
+++ exited with 1 +++

You installed an x86 Skype on an amd64 no-multilib system, meaning you do not have the x86 loader. Rebuild Skype for amd64, run it in an x86 chroot, or reinstall with an amd64 multilib system. |

Hi guys,
I think I have the same problem. However, my emerge did not even complete. I get the message;
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "x11-libs/libXScrnSaver[abi_x86_32(-)]".
(dependency required by "net-im/skype-4.2.0.13" [ebuild])
How would I build Skype specifically for an amd64 no-multilib system? I thought this would be taken care of automatically by Portage?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks. |

you can't, Skype is closed source and 32bit only.
You either need a multilib profile or a 32bit chroot _________________

Yeah, that's what I thought. The previous reply confused me.
OK, thanks Naib. |

My advice is generic. Running closed source x86 programs is a degenerate case where the option to rebuild is unavailable to everyone outside the vendor who keeps the code secret. If you could obtain the code from Microsoft, that option would be an acceptable solution. Alternately, you could use something for which the code is freely available and avoid the problem that way. |

I'm getting the same error as here, only with qtdbus:
Code: | # emerge -p @preserved-rebuild
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "dev-qt/qtdbus:4[abi_x86_32(-)]".
(dependency required by "net-im/skype-4.2.0.13" [ebuild])
|
So far as I know, I have a multilib profile (I build packages with both abi_x86_32 and _64, or one or the other). But qtdbus does not have a use flag for 32-bit, and does not seem to respond to that USE flag; how do I build it to fit what skype needs?
Cheers,
EE |

I also look forward it qtdbus with the abi_x86_32 use flag. Skype is the only thing that is not working without the emul-linux packages. |

It is my actually "/etc/portage/package.keywords" for Qt with the flag abi_x86_32:
Code: | =dev-qt/qtchooser-0_p20140613 ~amd64
=dev-qt/designer-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qt3support-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qtcore-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qtdbus-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qtdeclarative-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qtgui-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qtmultimedia-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qtopengl-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qtscript-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qtsql-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qtsvg-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qttest-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qttranslations-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64
=dev-qt/qtxmlpatterns-4.8.6-r1 ~amd64

Now, zero mask!! |

Shortly after my previous post, I found that 4.8.6-r1 of the dev-qt/qt packages were available after running 'emerge --sync', so I finally made Skype (and everything else) work without the emul-linux packages. I am not sure whether the performance is any better, but I am glad to have recent versions of everything without any old, generic, prebuilt packages. I have been switching all of my computers to this method. |
