just a remark on the side ... eclipse is not slow because of java (java is by no means slow anymore ... just a bit bloated :-D), but rather because it compiles all the time in the background and basically "spell checks" the code for you all the time.

Personally, I love eclipse when it comes to java programming.

nedit (lightweight, syntax highlight, macro recorder, etc...) + terminal window. Next version of nedit will have tabs!

I'm familiar with the concept, thanks. ;) I was just saying that Emacs already has a (IMHO) better solution to the problem.

i prefer to use Netbeans for Java...the new 3.6 interface is nice...similar to the 3.5 but still some nice changes.

I am working on getting KDevelop but so far have had nothing but problems emerging it with ant because i use the beta sources of the Sun JDK...not a KDE problem but still an issue that should be taken care of....

No need for a GUI or anything...just open up VIM/Emacs and start coding... I use vim for all my coding...C/C++, HTML/PHP...
