|

Hi all. I've been installing Gentoo on my linux box for the last 2 days (because compling takes so long, oh well). The box is a dual PIII 600. I have two questions about SMP for you guys:
1. Does Gentoo take advantage of SMP? When I do "emerge xmms" or something will emerge take advantage of both processors? Looking at top it seems like one processor is doing the compiling (usually around 90%) and the other one is doing other stuff (usually about 3%) so it doesn't seem like it's doing two things at once. I have an SMP kernel and whatnot, linux sees both processors, etc. Is there something that I need to do to make emerge take advantage of it?
2. I forgot my other question. Oops. Oh well. _________________ -- Michael

considering that SMP support is enabled in the kernel config (make menuconfig step) by default, you will have smp support no problem and all your apps should take advantage of this characteristic |
