Hi,

I don't know why, but handbrake won't emerge. I even removed all traces of ffmpeg from my system (a big step for me). The weird thing is, I don't see any errors. It just decides it doesn't want to install:

Can you provide /var/tmp/portage/media-video/handbrake-0.9.9/temp/build.log so we can look at the details?

Gah.

I see now what is happening. I apologzie. I didn't want to bloat the post with the entire log. The portage error was so early that it went beyond my scrollback buffer... that's never happened before.

This is the problem:
Code:
In file included from ../libhb/internal.h:10:0,
                 from ../libhb/common.h:99,
                 from ../libhb/audio_resample.c:10:
../libhb/hbffmpeg.h:12:38: fatal error: libavutil/channel_layout.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
configure: loading site script /usr/share/config.site
checking for a BSD-compatible install... In file included from ../libhb/internal.h:10:0,
                 from ../libhb/common.h:99,
                 from ../libhb/hb.h:18,
                 from ../libhb/decmpeg2.c:10:
../libhb/hbffmpeg.h:12:38: fatal error: libavutil/channel_layout.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.

So, I'm right back where I was. I thought I had gotten past this. It is the old ffmpeg competing with libav problem. The problem is that makemkv wants ffmpeg -- and there are no flags to manipulate to tell it to use libav. The same is true with media-libs/xine-lib. I need both of these packages.

I had thought that Gentoo adopted libav over ffmpeg, so I am surprised to see that ffmpeg would be required.

What can I do?

Thanks.

G

Ask the maintainers to consider libav support on https://bugs.gentoo.org or switch to ffmpeg.

Yeah... Handbrake won't install if I am on ffmpeg... I wanted both handbrake and makemkv... and, of course it breaks other things... I need xine-libs as well, etc. etc.

I'm using HandBrake 0.9.9 with libav-9.11. Try that?
