They should require the collection of the methane for use as fuel. But PETA would still insist that the best solution is to not raise so many cows...

Actually, the amount of methane each cow farts out each day is minimal compared to the amount that can be generated by processing the manure in a digester.

Yeah, family farmers complained to Obama about the oligopoly and price fixing in the food distribution market, and he was like, "I know dude! Have you seen the price of arugula in Whole Foods?!"

This area used to be full of small family farms. Now, most of them have sold their land to an industrial-scale chicken farm that has some ungodly number of chickens (like millions). They use the land to grow their own feed corn for the chickens.

There is a big dairy farm near here too, but not as large as the ones described in that video. I do think cattle and hogs deserve better treatment.

The good thing (if there's anything good about it) is that it's very easy to boycott factory farming. Aside from the environmental and ethics benefits, most also find it easier to lose weight, not to mention many less obvious health benefits. On top of that, a sustainable diet can often cost less than a "common" diet.

You think it's easy to boycott factory farming? How does one do it with respect to meat? The only people I know who do that are hunters.

Buy local and/or organic. There's also the choice of going vegetarian/vegan, which is actually your best bet if factory farmed meat is all that seems to be available. (If you can buy organic meat, it does make sense to include some in your diet as it does provide some health benefits.)

I buy organic. (Except for fish and other seafood, of course - wild catch is as close as I can get there. But factory farmed fish is nowhere as bad as other factory farmed meat.)

Fallacies and misconceptions of organic foods

First time I've seen this specific article.

Local butcher shop that sells meat products made by himself and buys the animals from local farmers.

Yes, such a thing exists in my small town. In fact, three of them exist in my small town.

The real point is that Global Warming is to blame. If it weren't so cold the cows wouldn't have been shut up in the barn long enough for this to have happened.
