Hey everyone, I'm new to gentoo and the gentoo forums.
I built gentoo with kde desktop on a virtual machine.
When trying the command emerge firefox it takes hours for me to build firefox.
I have 2 cpu cores in the machine and a little under 3 gb.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I need more ram or cpu cores?

| yes, you're emerging firefox, not firefox-bin.... firefox, seamonkey, chromium, and libreoffice are extremely ugly compiles. i bin every single one of them even on my quad core machine. |

While I agree that firefox takes a while to compile from source. Three hours is pretty excessive unless you are compiling on an really older/slower machine. On both my laptop and Desktop it usually take me about 45mins.

my laptop specs: i7-2630QM 6GB ram
Even on my older single core AMD Athlon64 3500+ with 512MB of ram it shouldn't take 3 hours. Something is wrong. can you post your emerge --info |
