Hello.
Another crappy Acer laptop fell into my hands. With an Nvidia chip.
It's a GeForce go 7300 so it's old enough that if I was to use it with the "nvidia" blob then I'd have to use the 304 legacy branch.
I have compiled a 3.19 kernel and set up the thing as correctly as my knowledge goes. I used eselect opengl to set the xorg-x11 GL and kms is working nicely from early kernel start (compiled into the kernel, not as a module).
So far so go, I can boot into an openbox desktop and I can start chromium, gkrellm, urxvt et al.
glxinfo|head shows DRI is working.
Code: | name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
server glx extensions:
GLX_ARB_create_context, GLX_ARB_create_context_profile,
GLX_ARB_fbconfig_float, GLX_ARB_framebuffer_sRGB, GLX_ARB_multisample,
GLX_EXT_create_context_es2_profile, GLX_EXT_framebuffer_sRGB,
GLX_EXT_import_context, GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap, GLX_EXT_visual_info, |
But, somehow, it isn't.
If it start glxgears, the window appear, and I can see the three wheels, but they don't move. The computer is not frozen, and glxgears doesn't crash (I can close the window instantly with no delay). Cpu usage stays just as if it was idle (around 3% in this machine).
Videos (e.g. youtube) seems to work fine, though cpu usage is high as expected with this driver.
So, does anyone have some idea to try before I go the the nouveau ML?
