|
I'm trying out totem player because of the nsplugin and flash use flags
I'd like to be able to play ogg video and audio embedded in wikipedia
i.e (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theora)
If I download the video, it plays fine on smplayer, using the fftheora and ffvorbis decoders
here are my use flags:
[ebuild R ] media-video/totem-3.8.2-r1 USE="flash introspection nautilus nsplugin -debug -grilo -lirc -python {-test} -zeitgeist" PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET="python2_7 -python2_6" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 -python2_6" 0 kB
[ebuild R ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-meta-1.0-r1:1.0 USE="X alsa ffmpeg -a52 -aac -cdda -dts -dv -dvb -dvd -flac -http -jack -lame -libass -libvisual -mms -mp3 -mpeg -ogg -opus -oss -pulseaudio -taglib -theora -v4l -vcd -vorbis (-vpx) -wavpack -x264" 0 kB
[ebuild R ] media-video/ffmpeg-1.0.8 USE="X alsa mmx mmxext threads vaapi vdpau -3dnow -3dnowext -aac -aacplus (-altivec) -amr -avx -bindist -bluray -bzip2 -cdio (-celt) -cpudetection -debug -doc -encode -examples -faac -fdk -flite -fontconfig -frei0r -gnutls -gsm -hardcoded-tables -iec61883 -ieee1394 -jack -jpeg2k -libass -libcaca -libv4l -modplug -mp3 (-neon) -network -openal -openssl -opus -oss -pic -pulseaudio -rtmp -schroedinger -sdl -speex -ssse3 -static-libs {-test} -theora -truetype -twolame -v4l (-vis) -vorbis -vpx -x264 -xvid -zlib" FFTOOLS="-aviocat -cws2fws -ffeval -fourcc2pixfmt -graph2dot -ismindex -pktdumper -qt-faststart -trasher" 0 kB
[ebuild R ] media-video/mplayer-1.1.1-r1 USE="X alsa iconv libass mmx mmxext opengl png shm sse sse2 truetype vdpau -3dnow -3dnowext -a52 -aalib (-altivec) (-aqua) -bidi -bindist -bl -bluray -bs2b -cddb -cdio -cdparanoia -cpudetection -debug -dga -directfb -doc -dts -dv -dvb -dvd -dvdnav -dxr3 -enca -encode -faac -faad -fbcon -ftp -ggi -gif -gsm -ipv6 -jack -joystick -jpeg -jpeg2k -ladspa -libcaca -libmpeg2 -lirc -live -lzo -mad -md5sum -mng -mp3 -nas -network -nut -openal -osdmenu -oss -pnm -pulseaudio -pvr -quicktime -radio -rar -rtc -rtmp -samba -sdl -speex -ssse3 -tga -theora -toolame -tremor -twolame -unicode -v4l (-vidix) -vorbis -x264 -xanim -xinerama -xscreensaver -xv -xvid -xvmc -zoran" VIDEO_CARDS="-mga -s3virge -tdfx" 0 kB
also, I would like to play youtube videos(any would be a start), but that's a secondary objective for now
thanks
solution:

I got the youtube videos to play, I can also download the file and play it locally, the embedded player remains a problem however |

I've tried totem for a few days, crash every 1-2 songs is not nice.
what browser you have? Both, youtube in html5 mode and wiki video worked fine in midori. I have mplayer and vlc installed, no idea which one is used by my browser right now though.
Btw, whatever player you chose, you better enable some use flags for it. If you want to play ogg, you must enable ogg. Same goes about aac, cdda, dvd, flac, mp3, theora, vcd and vorbis. |

I'm using opera
I thought you needed the nsplugin to play videos in your browser, I don't think opera can play ogg videos without totem
I have enabled the appropriate flags too
I'll start testing rhythmbox as well |

solved by re emerging gst-plugins-meta with the http flag
my current flags are:
[ebuild R ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-meta-1.0-r1:1.0 USE="X alsa ffmpeg http mp3 ogg theora vorbis -a52 -aac -cdda -dts -dv -dvb -dvd -flac -jack -lame -libass -libvisual -mms -mpeg -opus -oss -pulseaudio -taglib -v4l -vcd (-vpx) -wavpack -x264" 0 kB
some youtube videos are working as well
I'll start working on getting all videos to work
thanks everyone |
