I have used instruction from the following link http://geekniggle.blogspot.ca/2012/07/cisco-linksys-ae3000-wifi-usb-dongle.html to get my cisco ae3000 usb wireless adapter to work. It works perfectly under mint and opensuse but not with my new gentoo installation (finished today). I get no error messages and no complaints as I follow "make -j10", "make install", "depmod -a" and finally "modprobe -v rt3573sta" but device doesn't work (no light flashing).
Perhaps there's something missing in the kernel configuration? I used genkernel to do that.

rt3573 is now supported in the kernel. Suggest you use the kernel support. Is linux-firmware up to date? Run lsmod in mint and/or opensuse to see what wifi modules they use.
Cisco may have "improved" performance for windows when they implemented the chipset.
I don't have an rt3573. 3572 doing fine.

Thanks. I found the appropriate entry in the kernel and recompiled. I don't have X up yet so I don't know how to set up the adapter. Perhaps I'll wait for that - in the meantime I'm trying to get the xserver up with nvidia-drivers. I posting something new in the Desktop section.
Also the rt3573 module was a new build that I did. It would not work otherwise. I wonder if the gentoo kernel is more recent than Mint along with recent updates.... |
