I'm about to install a new gentoo system (I have been away from gentoo for a long time). My problem is that my only network connection can be via a usb wireless adapter, Cisco AE3000. The driver is not native to the kernel and I will need development tools to "make" and "make install" etc. Will I have the necessary tools with a minimul install to get my network up and running or is this even possible? What would the best installation medium be for me? Thanks!

Richard

Hi,
yes the make command is in the stage3. It should be in any Gentoo image file too because this command and others are elementary for a sources distribution. So you should be able to compile an external module from the beginning.

If you can use a Linux host that support your Cisco USB adapter, Internet access will be possible allowing you to install Gentoo by the chroot method with update and emerge of packages.
