Hello,

Comming back to gentoo after almost 10 years, did a stage 1 install back in 2003. I have forgotten everything that I learned and now am utterly frustrated in setting up this wireless. I find it amazing that there is not a clear and concise answer to get something as common as the Dlink DWA-552 nic to work during install via a minimal cd. This is what I get when ifconfig is ran:

Code:
enp10s0: flags=4099<UP,BROADCAST,MULTICAS> mtu 1500
ether 50:46:5d:6a:7c:87 txqueuelen 1000 (Ethernet)
RX packets - bytes 0 (0.0 B)
RX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 frame 0
TX packets - bytes 0 (0.0 B)
TX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 carrierr 0 collisions 0

lo: flags=73<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING> mtu 65536
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0
inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 scopeid 0x10<host>
loop txqueuelen 0 (Local Loopback)
RX packets - bytes 0 (0.0 B)
RX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 frame 0
TX packets - bytes 0 (0.0 B)
TX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 carrierr 0 collisions 0

when I run iwconfig, I get:

Code:
lo              no wireless extensions.
enp10s0    no wireless extensions.

Someone assist, please and thank you.

Edit:

Just did lspci and I believe what I want detected and loaded is:
Code:
08:05.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR922X Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)

You better go wired with Gentoo install CD/DVD. Or use SystemResqueCd for wireless.

I appreciate the advice, but why does everyone keep on saying that, is it SOOOO difficult to get the wireless install going? Can someone maybe just give me some pointers, or is it just the matter of modules not being available? If it is the latter - it just seems odd.

The minimal install cd only supports wireless connection to unprotected or WEP protected access points and only does that if the firmware is not proprietary and is included in the kernel.
Recommend using a system rescue cd or any livecd that supports chroot command and is of the same bitness as the intended install and makes the wireless connection. No part of the install cd becomes part of the final installed system.

First, wireless in unreliable, it sucks when you need to download big files.
Second, for reasons unknown to me Gentoo install disks do not have much support for wireless devices. But then again, since wireless sucks anyway, who cares?
