Yesterday I did a fresh Gentoo installation on my laptop. I want my sound card working, so I emerged alsa-utils, When I run alsamixer, it doesn't show any channels for me to unmute, instead it says "This sound device does not have any controls". alsa-utils is of version 1.0.27.2 and the kernel driver information is as follows,
Code: | $ /usr/sbin/lspci -k | grep Audio -A 2
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 166e
Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel

If you want any further information, just tell me. I will appreciate any help.

It turns out that I forgot to build the codec for my sound card into the kernel. After a rebuild of my kernel, alsa works as expected now. |
