xdm lightdm-gtk-greeter xfce4 restarting problem

startx & startxfce4 do not crash.... somewhere in xdm & lightdm is a problem on this system that knocks me out of x/xfce4 and back to the xdm login screen. im going to see if slim does the trick or not.

if that fails i think im going to look into auto startx. after about a week of this im about sick of this problem and ready to move on to new ones.

slim with loading .xinitrc is working fine, for the moment until i can figure out what went wrong with lightdm.
