Hello, I am having problems with the livecd not recognizing my wireless card.
I am using a thinkpad t400 with the Intel Ultimate N Wifi Link 5300. When I run ifconfig, it only comes up with two entries, enp0s25 and lo, which both appear to be ethernet extensions.
I tried loading the kernel modules iwlwifi and iwlegacy, but my wireless extension is still not being recognized.
Anyone know how I can fix this? |

if it doesn't, recommend | Code: | | emerge linux-firmware |
to get a ton of firmwares a lot of which you won't need, some of which you may need now or in the future. alternatively http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi contains a link to the single firmware package.
Run | Code: | | dmesg | grep -i iwlwifi |
and post if still no sign of wireless nic in ifconfig -a (kernel can see it) and/or ifconfig (it started):

I ran that first ls command and it outputted what you said it would without errors.
However, when I run

it just says

Apparently the /usr/src/linux directory does not exist.
I don't know if you don't know this, but I am still on the first step of the installation: connecting to the network. I haven't installed anything yet, so I don't know if that directory and file are created during installation or what. |

Gentoo install CD/DVD should not be used for wireless (or even wired) installs. Just put a good Linux livecd on a USB stick and you'll have a tool to install Gentoo, repair all kind of computer failures, etc. IMHO downloading and burning Gentoo install media is just a waste of time and resources.

ill second that. gentoo install media would be appropriate for a virtual machine, not critical melt down. i use ubuntu live media to gentoo systems or rescue. |
