I just noticed that h.264 is no longer available in Firefox. I know it did work a week ago. I ran emerge -DuN on friday the 3rd of October 2013, and now YouTube tells me that h.264 is no longer an option.
http://www.youtube.com/html5
I have media-libs/x264, media-plugins/gst-plugins-x264 and media-video/x264-encoder installed.
I re-emerged www-client/firefox-24.0-r1 with no effect.
Anyone else have this problem?

Chances are your media-plugins/gst-plugins-x264 is broken.
There's a known problem with it (version check for x264 to be exact) that's yet to be addressed.
Well, to be honest, the most simple fix for it should go into x264 ebuild, still, it's the plugin that's most likely to show it. |

I re-emerged media-plugins/gst-plugins-x264 which also pulled (re-emerged):
- media-libs/x264:0
- media-plugins/gst-plugins-x264:0.10
- media-plugins/gst-plugins-x264:1.0
- media-libs/avidemux-plugins:2.6
- media-video/vlc
It still doesn’t work. I’ll search for a bug report at https://bugs.gentoo.org/.
Question: Media Source Extensions – what is that? http://www.longtailvideo.com/html5/mediasource/
I checked with chromium and it supports all of it at http://www.youtube.com/html5, whereas Firefox doesn’t support MSE and now also lost H.264. |

Firefox must be compiled with the gstreamer USE flag and the media.gstreamer.enabled key must be set to true in the about:config utility for h.264 be check in Youtube html5 page. _________________ Paul |

Thanks! media.gstreamer.enabled was disabled, but I don’t get it why this happened?!? I never changed the configuration…
Anyway, now h.264 is available again. Thanks! |
