I've followed this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJwwcw56d6c
and installed gentoo to a vm (vmware).
I used genkernel and the default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/gnome profile.
The install works so far but I'm unsure how to install gnome from here. `emerge gnome` doesn't work and I can't seem the find a guide that fits my situation.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gnome-config.xml
^wants me to setup X server via
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Xorg/Configuration
But that guide involves kernel configuration which I though using genkernel automates.
So, where do I go from here?
Let me know what file/logs/etc I should be posting. |

Ok, i had tried to follow the xserver guide by just skipping the kernel config part but it didn't let me emerge so I assumed I had other steps to complete somewhere. But then I realized I couldn't emerge anything, at some point I had broken my c compiler.
I went back to a backup I created immediately after installing gentoo and I can emerge again, so I'm installing x server now. Thanks. |
