Anyone tried reducing power on their RadeonHD with the fglrx driver?

I wonder if it's possible to drop the power consumption of the graphics board any. I was planning to leave this machine on but was wondering about the GPU (RadeonHD 5770) eating power when nobody is at the console - the GPU still stays quite warm:

Code:
radeon-pci-0100
temp1:        +48.0 C

it8718-isa-0290
NB  Temp:     +43.0 C  (low  =  +0.0 C, high = +65.0 C)  sensor = thermistor
CPU Temp:     +37.0 C  (low  =  +0.0 C, high = +85.0 C)  sensor = thermal diode

coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0:       +30.0 C  (high = +63.0 C, crit = +85.0 C)
Core 1:       +29.0 C  (high = +63.0 C, crit = +85.0 C)
Core 2:       +28.0 C  (high = +63.0 C, crit = +85.0 C)
Core 3:       +27.0 C  (high = +63.0 C, crit = +85.0 C)

The northbridge doesn't even have a fan, gets quite warm, and is still cooler than the GPU...

Anyone muck with this?

(trying to get whole system power consumption down to around 100W or so when idle if possible. I think the CPU is already doing its part... And most of the remaining power is the hard drives...)

Doing `xset dpms force off` should drop the temp a few degrees. Not sure how you'd do DPMS on a console for a non-KMS driver.

Hmm... Quite possibly the machine already has the screens in power save mode. I wonder if the remaining power consumption by the GPU is purely leakage power... (and if there's a way to shut off parts of the chip to combat that, too.)

though if there was a way to underclock and see if that helps any...
