|
|
Well I finally got my 1.3b Gentoo installed (for the first time), and after a few tries I got Grub working.
Kernel booted up perfectly until I got an 'oops'
It told me that the /proc dir was missing and I got into a bash to fix it. And idd the dir wasn't there. I rebooted via the cd and tried to get the /proc from the tarball but that didn't go as expected (n00b here). So I just manually made a /proc dir.
And now my system boots normal (apart from an fstab error (my mistake I think) and the fact that I didn't know I HAD to compile devfs into the kernel) |

/proc is a special kind of filesystem that is generated from the running state of your system by the kernel - it's not files that you copy around. As long as you have a /proc mount point and something like: Code: | proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 | in your /etc/fstab you should be OK. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

that's all in there so I think I'm ok
just thought it was a serious error because when you unpack the tarball there are a number of files/dirs in the /proc
but ok... it seems to be working, so I'll leave it |

What fstab error, exactly? _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |
