I don't think it's portage, I think it's gcc giving a new format of version information. I'm using gcc 3.2-r1.

I continue to get the gcc check error referenced in this thread (checking the GNU gcc compiler version...) in spite of a new rsync and upgrade of portage (to 2.0.36).

Bugzilla shows this as fixed. Should I re-open it?

I think that the present version of the openoffice needs to be patched (or actually apply the patch) so that it compiles with GCC 3.2...

hmmmm......did I perform emerge portage before emerge openoffice....(damned...can't remember....DOH!)

The bug fix confirmation came just recently, so it's possible that there's an even newer version of Portage out there--might want to check again.

Still not working here either, at least on 1.4 beta. :)

c'mon, im sure someone will be able to fix this

im thinking that openoffice-bin is out of the question, since that will have been compiled under gcc 3.1, and gcc 3.2 libraries are not compatable...coudl someone either confirm or correct this pls?

I can confirm that 95 percent of computer errors are between chair and keyboard.

Ok, on a 1-4_beta, freshly installed, fresh portage, fresh rsync. openoffice-bin compiled and runs without errors. As I've mentioned, another thread gave me the key to an earlier problem for me, having to do with lib paths--I did this as root (not su to root, but logged in as root).

If you want open office download it from OpenOffice.org or install the binaries.

Wow!!!...what a lame-ass non constructive response!

Download binaries == Not in the Gentoo philosophy...not compiled and optimized as per my settings...

Download from OpenOffice.org == Not a clean system...

A preferable answer would have been to say to make a patch and submit an ebuild...

This is not a Mandrake/RedHat forum BTW...

Ok, so I've emerged portage, world, and even gcc-3.2-r1. All of this after a good rsync-ing of course.

Here is the fun stuff I get now!

Wow, I love it. No error message. Um, does anyone have a clue what Hunks are?

The warning about agressive cflags and cxflags is rather vague. What would be considered a non-aggressive set of flags? I will fidgit and see what I can do. But hopefully someone smarter than I (... most of you...) will know what's up here.

A hunk is err, a hunk of code is perhaps a decent description. Take a look at man patch which gives a better description of the whole process.

As for me, I'm still sticking with openoffice-bin. Others have had bad results with it (I forget if it was mentioned on forums, the gentoo-user list or private email) but it really has worked as well for me on 1.4 as doing an emerge on 1.2

i got exactly the same error msg (with -march=athlon-tbird -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer.

however, i dont think it is a cflags error, the merge failed while unpacking, which would suggest that one of the tarballs is dodgy

On a fresh install, just found that openoffice-bin isn't going correctly either. It installs without apparent problem, but when I run setup, I receive an error message about copying various xpms.

Sigh, it was working (that is openoffice-bin installation) just a couple of weeks ago (see my earlier posts)

It is a bit depressing, but on the bright side--downloading direct from openoffice.org worked--a few weeks ago, that didn't. :)

I'd rather have the Gentoo version though--possibly because of using my cjk flags, with the Gentoo version, I can easily input Japanese. With the English version taken from OpenOffice.org, I can't. I imagine I'll be able to after fooling around a bit, but the simple solution mentioned in their help didn't work. With Gentoo, there was nothing to it. :)

Oh well, it's just that and the fact that I can't get sound in lbreakout2 that are holding me back from redoing my whole workstation. Soon, I suspect both will be fixed.

If anyone missed it, the flakey patch has now been replaced and Oo finally compiled on my Athlon XP 1500+. Strangely enough, my first attemt to compile died after a few hours of compiling, while the second attempt worked. Oo 1.0.0 also exhibited this behaviour. Damaged RAM?

My system is an 1.1 system that's been upgraded to 1.4 and GCC-3.2. Now, let's see if my PIII/850 laptop, running a "pure" GCC 3.2 system, will also compile Oo. It has heat problems, time for me to pray it won't melt during the compile. :)

Anyone who has built Oo on a GCC-3.2-only system?

/Rasmus
