I recently installed gentoo prefix on my old MacBook, but I've run into a problem. The install finished without any issues, but when I execute eselect, I get an error

Code:

 * IMPORTANT: 3 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo_prefix'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

jrsmith3@beeta ~/gentoo $ eselect news
Illegal instruction

Can anyone tell me why I'm getting the Illegal instruction error and how to fix it?

As far as I can tell, eselect is a bash script and I don't understand why it would fail. Also, I don't understand why things would compile without an error, but not execute.

I installed prefix on a fresh install of OSX. Here are some details of my system:

System Version:Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
Kernel Version:Darwin 10.8.0
64-bit Kernel and Extensions:No
Model Name:MacBook
Model Identifier:MacBook4,1
Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed:2.1 GHz
Number Of Processors:1
Total Number Of Cores:2
L2 Cache:3 MB
Memory:4 GB
Bus Speed:800 MHz

I am using the 64 bit option for prefix, but I got the same error when I tried the 32 bit version. Here's my emerge --info

Code:

Portage 2.2.01.22097-prefix (prefix/darwin/macos/10.6/x64, gcc-4.2.1, unavailable, 10.8.0 i386)
