The only way to make that list go away is if everybody is on the list. Then it just becomes a list of people on planet Earth with internet connection / phone. Kinda useless

Adversary would seem to clearly not indicate enemy, at least in this use case. An ally could easily be adversarial. Or maybe it would be better to not call them allies.

The primary female questioner (student?) seems to lack the understanding that they're an intelligence agency and have limits on what they can say. She seems like a victim of the failing education system. Being a recruiting engagement, and clearly she's not interested in the career, perhaps she's asking the questions of the wrong people.

They deserve it, at least in the short term. Their basic response, which amounts to "We don't pick the requirements; we just follow orders" went out of style at the Nuremberg trials.

That said, there's nothing fundamentally unethical or immoral about spying on your allies; it's just not very ally-like. Spying on your own citizens in violation of their Constitutional protections from unreasonable search, and building portfolios of information and using them manipulate influential people (such a political dissidents like Tea Party organizers or military officers who push back against the immoral, unethical, or illegal orders they're getting) -- that's another story.

I'm not saying it is OK to blindly follow orders. My point is that they aren't at liberty to speak freely, and no amount of badgering is going to resolve anything. The only good to come from it in this specific case is attention, but I doubt it will matter. If they were called to testify and lied or withheld information, then that would be criminal. That said, it was rather stupid of the agency as a whole to not come prepared to answer some questions, even if they were what most people would want to hear.

I agree. But a recruiting seminar isn't the place to address that in an effective manner. Sure it makes for good social-media cred, but that's about it. I'm sure she'll be a star of the local campus Starbucks for at least 3 days :D.

My prediction is this goes little farther than Fast & Furious.
