Okay. You'd think that since I've been running Slack since '96 that it wouldn't take me 5 attempts to build xfree before I figured out the problem
I'm trying to install on a 1.5 gig primary partition. Aside from the base/bootstrape all I've added is vi and pine. I keep running out of disk space during the xfree compile! I assume that I'll have similiar issues with my planned kde build.
What files can/should I nuke before my next attempt? Any suggestions?

You can try blowing away stuff in: /var/tmp/portage and /usr/portage/distfiles. The latter contains all packages that portage has downloaded during emerge. /var/tmp/portage is where stuff gets built. It is cleaned up after the emerge; however, if an emerge is ^C'ed, it will have a lot of junk in it.
You can change the following directories http://www.gentoo.org/doc/portage-manual.html:
Quote: |
PORTDIR - Portage tree location
DISTDIR - Local cache of downloaded archives
PKGDIR - Location of locally generated tbz2 packages
RPMDIR - Location of locally generated RPM packages
PORTAGE_TMPDIR - Temporary space used for package compilation
BUILD_PREFIX - Related to PORTAGE_TMPDIR
PKG_TMPDIR - Related to PKG_TMPDIR

to find some space elsewhere. |
