For the btrfs crowd, I thought this was an interesting (and encouraging) read: The btrfs backup experiment.

Not really encouraging: The messages about the behavior of full filesystem coincide with the early reports of some reiser developer that the algorithms have changed in a very bad way which willl break for nearly full filesystems. Also in the FAQ there are corresponding (discouraging) comments. Since this seems to be hidden very deep in the concepts, I am afraid that this behavior will never change, at least not in the next years. Since my partitions permanently tend to be full near the limit, btfrs will perhaps remain a no-go for me.

What i found to be encouraging is that it proved to be functional in a high demand environment as opposed to a few developer's systems and a relatively small number of desktops. It specifically identifies areas that _should_ be focused on for improvement. "Encouraging" implies no claim of if or when it might happen.

Given how long it has taken to get this far, I've been looking at zfsonlinux (don't really want to maintain patching a kernel).
