Hi,

Installing Gentoo on a DELL XPS 13 Ultrabook.

Since I can't make the wireless work with the Gentoo live USB, I use 64 bits Ubuntu live USB.

I'm stuck at kernel compilation:

Code:

AS      usr/initramfs_data.o
usr/initramfs_data.S:1:0: error: CPU you selected does not support x86-64 instruction set
make[1]: *** [usr/initramfs_data.o] Error 1
make: *** [usr] Error 2

Here is my emerge --info:
Code:

Portage 2.1.11.55 (default/linux/x86/13.0/desktop/kde, gcc-4.6.3, glibc-2.15-r3, 3.5.0-23-generic x86_64)

I can emerge packages, it's only a problem for kernel compilation.

Thank you

You installed using a 32-bit Gentoo stage. You cannot readily build a 64-bit kernel using 32-bit tools. Did you intend to use x86 Gentoo?

Then I probably picked the stage tarball from the wrong place
I took x86 stage 3 from gentoo mirrors
What's the right arch for an intel core i7?
