I'd need to see a better trailer as I'm not familiar with the cast or Drive.

Yes, pointing out that the trailer makes the movie look like crap, and lacking familiarity with either the cast or the referenced movie, I can't fairly judge whether or not it is a viable movie for me to see.

I think I missed the point with Drive. It was as if someone with a high definition car cam made a movie with it, making it up as they progressed. As what they made up wasn't all that interesting. Perhaps I need to watch it again so I can have a diametrically changed opinion of it.

That film in the OP looks fairly awesome though, I must say. If only I could think of something other than small fluffy birds when I see the name Gosling.

It's definitely not for everyone. Most people I've talked with had a strong opinion about the movie in either one or the other direction.

It's more of a nod to movies back then, then your current over-cgi'd movie.

Also, you'd love the title of the film.

"Only God Forgives."

That's a really crappy title. Only god forgives? Really? Sounds like lots of BHz.

I saw that... didn't do anything for me one way or the other. Based on what they show of the movie, I translated it as a variation of "Kill 'em All, Let God Sort 'em Out." My main skepticism was with the acting of the person portraying the mother. It seemed really bad, but maybe that was just editing of the trailer. It looks very low budget with appropriate acting.

You guys all might benefit from reading a book instead. :P

I suggest The Way of the Knife: The CIA, a Secret Army, and a War at the Ends of the Earth by Mark Mazetti.

I recommend War and Peace. At least you will be busy for a while and not watch idiotic movies. Or even better In Search of Lost Time. After that you can call yourself an 'intellectual'.

It is a "strange" movie. Maybe I contruct too much, but the movie has something deep. I think it's one of those movies that you either feel or you don't feel them.

like Pi

For the reading thing:
this CIA, War etc stuff is stuff for movies, not for books (I've read body of secrets from james bamford, good but the real stuff is secret, therefore why reading about intelligence agencies?)

I recommend Gödel, Escher, Bach. then you will be busy for a while and after reading it you know that you don't have to call yourself an "intellectual", because you can be one. :)

I disagree.. We had to read all of those "russian classics" in high school, with two weeks between them, sometimes in cyrilic alphabet cos the damn book was printed in Belgrade... Imagine reading War and Peace in cyrillic, where he goes on about for two pages just to basically say "it rained today". Talk about laying it thick. Intellectual? Jabba the Hut more like.

Read Plato to get direction, and read some zen stories to realize that being an intellectual is just an ego trip for skinny/fat/ugly people to get laid.

Drive was absolute classic. Brilliant.

I once tried reading War & Peace. It was too long, so I didn't read.

and suddenly that civil war and the hatred all makes sense.

Now that I think about it, it's closer to the mark then one might think. When I moved from Split in 3rd grade to Mostar, I switched from mostly latin alphabet to one week of latin and one of cyrillic. The old lady that was teaching serbo-croatian was absolutely disguisted that I, who has "proper serbian blood in him" didn't like cyrillic alphabet. I just thought it looked ugly and had too many lines. I still do. Especially handwritten cyrillic is ugly as hell to me.

It was only recently that I discovered that I have synesthesia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia
