What's up. I'm trying to get Gentoo installed on an old Sparcstation 5. When activating swap I get a segmentation fault.
Code: | swapon /dev/sda2
segmentation fault |
Anyone know what this means exactly?
Thanks in advance.

segmentation fault means the program tried to store data in a read only memory address.
Writing to a null pointer in a C program is the easiest way to do it, but using the wrong versions of dynamic libraries or incompatible device drivers can do it as well
Hope that helps a little _________________ Don't let THEM immanentize the Eschaton! |

You can ignore the error...it gives the segfault message on sparc32, but it works. Its been a known issue for quite some time. _________________ -Todd <todd@gentoo.org>

Yeah, while swapon gives a segfault, it is actually activating swap. I seem to recall this is a kernel related issue. |

This was fixed around 2.4.21 or 22. The most recent sparc-sources should not have this problem. |
