plymouth install leads me nowhere

followed http://dev.gentoo.org/~aidecoe/doc/en/plymouth.xml

dracut builds and boots initramfs fine. kernel loading messages stops at usb stuff then just hangs and hangs. i still see text, & no plymouth.... i get warnings but scrolls too fast to see them. where do i pick up these warnings & error messages?


im beginning to think gensplash is the correct answer, and plymouth the wrong question.
